Position Summary
A growing nonprofit organization in the Baltimore area is seeking a high-impact Chief Financial Officer to lead its financial strategy, operations, and enterprise infrastructure. This executive will serve as a key strategic partner to the CEO and Board, overseeing finance, HR, IT, and organizational operations to ensure long-term sustainability, operational excellence, and mission-aligned growth. The ideal leader brings deep financial expertise, strong systems thinking, and a commitment to equity, transparency, and organizational effectiveness.
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Advise executive leadership and the Board on fiscal strategy, long-term sustainability, and capital planning.
- Lead multi-year financial modeling that aligns revenue, funding, and organizational priorities.
- Convert strategic goals into financial forecasts that guide decision-making across departments.
- Provide timely, transparent reports and recommendations to Finance and Audit Committees.
- Partner with fundraising and revenue teams to align financial plans with grants, philanthropy, and partnerships.
Financial Operations
- Oversee all financial functions including accounting, budgeting, cash management, investments, and audits.
- Ensure full compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and reporting systems.
- Manage audits, tax filings, and required registrations with timely follow-through.
- Lead annual budgeting and long-range forecasting to support strategic resource allocation.
- Guide capital planning, liquidity management, and long-term financial health.
Organizational Operations
- Direct HR, IT, and operational infrastructure to ensure efficiency and scalability.
- Work with senior leaders to ensure operational systems support organizational goals.
- Build integrated systems connecting financial, operational, and HR data for improved decision support.
- Lead workflow and process improvements across teams to enhance collaboration and performance.
- Oversee procurement, vendor management, and contracting with a focus on fiscal discipline.
People & Culture
- Provide leadership for HR strategy, including compensation, benefits, and performance management.
- Support workforce planning, succession strategies, and staff development initiatives.
- Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, inclusion, and high performance.
- Oversee HR compliance, policy development, benefits administration, and retirement plan governance.
Technology & Data Systems
- Oversee IT strategy to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable systems.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives that improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.
- Develop or manage business continuity and incident management plans.
- Partner with analytics teams to integrate financial and operational data.
Risk & Compliance
- Maintain an enterprise risk framework across financial, operational, and reputational areas.
- Ensure insurance coverage, compliance, and business continuity measures are in place.
- Review major contracts, agreements, and investments for alignment with organizational priorities.
- Serve as primary liaison to auditors, legal partners, and financial institutions.
Qualifications
- CPA and MBA preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 10 years of progressive financial and operational leadership in complex or multi-site organizations.
- Proven expertise in financial strategy, forecasting, cost modeling, and systems integration.
- Experience leading Finance, HR, IT, and Operations with a data-driven approach.
- Strong understanding of accounting standards, audits, compliance, and diverse revenue models.
- Experience with enterprise risk management and continuity planning.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to translate financial information for various audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage change, and foster a high-performance culture.
